RAC Canada Day Contest 2025

RAC Canada Day Contest 2025

For this year’s Canada Day contest club members met at Kwomais Point Park. Once on site we explored the open spaces for a suitable location to deploy our station. A large open grassy area between the buildings and viewing area was deemed the best location for the day.  We returned to our cars and loaded up our gear to transport to the location. For today’s event we would be using Eric’s POTA kit.

Once the equipment was moved Eric selected a spot for the mast and began raising the antenna, the rest of the team got the tent and table organized. Then it was onto the bands. Conditions on the air proved to be more challenging than expected and though we could hear a number of stations we were able to work only a few of them. Some had pileups we couldn’t break through others must have been running high power as we could hear them but they could not hear us.

Despite the poor conditions and struggle to make contacts we did manage a few and enjoyed some fresh air in the sun. In the end five of us worked the contest and two other club members dropped by for a visit. Once we had had enough of the contest we packed up and drove to Ocean Park Pizza for a late lunch. It had been a pleasant outing, and we all enjoyed the time together.
