Girl Guides on the Air

Girl Guides on the Air

Club members hosted a group of Girl Guides this year for their thinking day. The event took place in the Centennial Arena again this year. The girls attended an info session presented by Ralph and then split into three groups which rotated through three activity areas. This year the hand-held task was changed to included a search, find and report task. The girls were placed into two person teams and they had to go out to find various items in the area and report the details of the object to the other. This was simulating a message passing exercise. The girls found it a lot more interesting than just chatting on the hand-helds. The radio activity had an HF and VHF radio in operation, On HF we were able to have several groups of girls chat with a station on the east-coast.  VHF was through the club repeater to VA7CDA. The third activity was the morse and phonetics practice area. Many of the girls had actually been preparing for this already.

Over all it was a very successful time and all enjoyed the day.
