SOTA on McKee Peak

SOTA on McKee Peak

Ralph and Eric hiked to the summit of McKee PEak to activate it for the SOTA program. The hike went smoothly and we made descent time along the 3km trail to the top. On the summit is a radio tower which meant we had to choose a location just south of the summit. We found a small grassy area next to some bike trails and setup the radio gear. Eric soon had some 2m contacts in the log with his new Kenwood 2m radio and Ralph had started with CW. Soon after we arrived and finished some lunch the clouds dropped a bit of rain on us, so we had to quickly pack up the electronics.

We had successfully activated the summit before the rain so it was a good excuse to get moving. the trip down went quickly and soon we were resting in the car and starting on our way home.
